This book is designated for students of law and business.

        They say that we can learn to translate only by translating. There are no special methods for teaching translation. But the author offers one of the ways to teach translation of contracts.

        The book contains six chapters:

     1. Introduction (the author gives recommendations how to work with this book).
     2. What is a contract? (different definitions of the word ‘contract’ are given).
     3. International Commercial Contract (theoretical part concerning drafting a contract in Russian).
     4. Framework Goods Supply Agreement (text of a contract in English with prompts).
     5. Control of mastery and vocabulary activation (a list of word combinations from the contract).
     6. Рамочный договор поставки товаров (text of a contract in Russian).

        How to work with this book?
        It is recommended to translate a small portion of the theoretical part either by ear or looking into the text, using the given synonyms of some words. Then you should repeat these words.

        Среди огромного количества договоров, названия которых можно найти, заглянув в англо-русский или русско-английский юридический словарь, не говоря об учебниках по контрактному праву, можно выделить три типа договоров:

1. Простое устное соглашение без предварительных переговоров и без определения сроков и условий.
2. Простой договор с конкретными сроками и условиями.
3. Международный контракт.

        The next step is translation of the contract itself from English into Russian, using prompts. After that, repetition of the underlined phrases follows (translation from English into Russian and visa versa).

        For example:

     2.3. The conditions of this Agreement shall govern each Contract, subject to any contrary terms and conditions set forth in such Contract. Each Contract shall have a reference that it has been concluded in accordance with and conforming to the terms stipulated by the Contract and this Agreement. In the event of any discrepancy between the Agreement and the Contract the Contract shall prevail.

     2.4. The Buyer shall issue and send the Purchase Order to the Supplier not less than 10 days in advance of the requested Date of Delivery (as defined below).

2. Исключая применение каких-либо иных условий или положений.

        The third step is translation of the same part of the contract from Russian into English.

     2.3. Условия настоящего договора будут регулировать каждый контракт, исключая применение каких-либо иных условий и положений, установленных в таком Контракте. Каждый Контракт должен содержать указание на то, что он заключен в соответствии и на условиях, определенных в Контракте и настоящем Договоре. В случае любого несоответствия между настоящим Договором и Контрактом, Контракт имеет преимущественную силу.

     2.4. Покупатель обязан оформить и направить Поставщику Заказ на Поставку не позднее, чем за 10 дней до желаемой Даты поставки (как определено ниже).

        After that we move on to vocabulary extension (matching exercises). Then comes exercise for matching.
